As a Kindergarten Paraprofessional, I support students' academic, social, and emotional development.
In my role as a 1:1 paraprofessional, I consistently use structured visual aids, choice board charts, and sensory-based tools to help the student better access their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and navigate the school day with greater independence and success.
Visual supports such as schedules, step-by-step task breakdowns, and clear visual expectations help reduce anxiety and increase understanding of daily routines and transitions. Choice boards are used to promote communication, self-advocacy, and appropriate decision-making by allowing the student to select preferred activities or coping strategies in a structured and supported way.

I also incorporate sensory items and regulation strategies to support emotional and behavioral needs throughout the day. These tools help the student maintain emotional regulation, increase focus, and successfully re-engage in learning during moments of dysregulation.
In addition, I consistently reinforce safety expectations by using proactive supports, clear visual cues, and consistent routines to ensure the safety of the student and peers. Overall, my approach is centered on creating a predictable, supportive environment that promotes independence, emotional regulation, and positive behavior while supporting the implementation of the student’s IEP goals.
I support a kindergarten classroom throughout the school day by assisting students during math, ELA, lunch, specials, and structured writing activities. During math and literacy instruction, I provide targeted support to individuals and small groups by reinforcing key skills, guiding students through tasks, and helping differentiate instruction to meet a range of learning needs. In writing, I encourage students to develop their ideas, build confidence in expressing themselves, and strengthen early writing skills through modeling, prompting, and positive reinforcement.

In addition to core academics, I help facilitate engaging science and social studies lessons that encourage curiosity, hands-on learning, and meaningful discussion. I work to create an encouraging and supportive environment by providing consistent feedback, celebrating effort, and motivating students to go above and beyond their expectations. Throughout the day, I aim to foster independence, confidence, and a love of learning while supporting both academic growth and positive classroom participation.
Working with children is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences. Every day brings new opportunities to encourage curiosity, creativity, and kindness. Building positive relationships with students and supporting them as they learn and grow makes each day meaningful and reminds me why I am passionate about working in education.
